Cancer Screening Program

  • 18 Oct 2018
  • 25 Oct 2018

My name is Susan Mcavoy, I am the Community Outreach Representative for the Cancer Services Program of Greater Capital Region.  Our goal is to encourage people age 40 + to get screened for breast, cervical and colorectal cancers.   Additionally, we cover the cost for the uninsured.

I would very much enjoy the opportunity to work together with CCC members to get the word out to the Chinese Community and help persons over the age of forty to get tested.  Early detection saves lives.  Currently, I have two dates available to schedule appointments.  On October 18, 2018 we have a screening at St. Mary’s hospital in Troy and on October 25, 2018 we have a screening at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.  Both screenings, people must be registered in advance of the day to get an appointment.

Once the uninsured  woman who is 40 + years old are registered and scheduled for an appointment, based on their medical history; they can expect to receive a breast exam, pap and pelvic exam and a mammogram as well as an at home stool sample kit.

Men age 50 to 64 do not need an appointment although we will do some of the same paperwork which consist of name, address, phone, date of birth, language preference and medical history.  Once they have signed a consent form we will provide them with an at home stool sample test.  These costs are also covered providing they are uninsured.

We are able to have Mandarin translation services at the screenings if needed.

The attached  flier  might be an effective way to also provide quick information about this program.
