Wanted:
  • Host Families for Teachers-- The AFS Visiting Teacher Program is seeking host families for teachers from China, Turkey and Thailand during the 2004-2005 school year. If you are interested, call 581-9199.

  • Furniture and other items for Chinese Students and Scholars-- Thank you to members and friends who have donated items for the apartments of our friends from China. Donations are generally tax-deductible. A form letter will be sent to anyone who makes a donation. So far large and small items have been donated. At the present time we have requests for: desks, a microwave oven, radio/cassette player, book shelves, chairs, a dining room table, dressers, winter boots and a TV stand. Phone 449-8817 if you have anything you wish to donate.

  • Volunteers to meet the boats -- Volunteers to meet boats that dock for a few days in the port of Albany that have Chinese crews. They may take Chinese newspapers, magazines, books and home-baked cakes to the boats. They may take the crew members on errands. Their visits warm the hearts of lonely travelers thousands of miles from home. Everyone always has a good time. Call 449-8817 to join the group. Send an e-mail to albmarmin@juno.com to receive news of ships coming in.

  • Pen pals and e-mail pals -- Do you know high school teachers who would like to introduce their students to the "Chinese-American Friend to Friend" Program? Ask them to call 449-8817.
  • Assistant Membership Secretary--an easy job, contact Mel for information and to volunteer.
