Old Friends, the Wangs

picture of wang family
Hi, this picture was taken on 6/28/01 during our very first overnight vacation in Carmel, one year after our move to CA. It was cloudy, windy by the ocean on that day, so everyone had winter clothes on. I had another picture taken in Santa Cruz in December, but we wore T-shirts. The weather definitely is different from NY.

Life has been tough and very fast-paced here, everything in the environment is just competitive, and resources are limited. We are learning to save time, space, money, water and of course energy. It's a great new learning process for our 15 and 11 years old, who grew up in Albany, NY where we got plenty of everything to use.

Since both of us still work with people in the East Coast, we start to work before 7am. I telecommute from home, it's getting lonely sometimes. There are tons of activity in the local Chinese Community. Between fixing the house, working and attending different events, time flies by very quickly. The thing I like about this area is its diversity, and the natural hiking trails, besides the sunny weather.

We miss the closeness of Albany's Chinese community. Here people are on the run all the time. Our kids continue to go to Chinese School here, but parents don't get involved that much. Only the school staff stay in the office, you don't get to know other parents after one year.

If you happen to come to San Jose, don't forget to give us a call. Your call or e-mail from NY is welcome all the time. Until today, we still feel we are vacationing here, and NY is still our home town. It's weird, but I can understand it, we have spent a good portion of our lives there.

Stay in touch and best wishes for everyone in our NY hometown and those, like me, have become Albany Alumni.
