Hi Everybody,
How are you guys doing? I'm glad we were able to get together last
December. It's been years since we all saw each other!
Anyways, as most of you know, the Chinese Community Center is raising
money to build a Chinese School/Cultural Center. Since most of us
grew up going to the Shaker every Sunday - whether it was to learn
Chinese, play basketball, take dancing lessons, or just meet with
friends - I think it would be a great idea for our generation to
give a little back to the community. As Youth Group alums, I
thought it would be nice to do it together.
Recently the CCC received a pledge from Marty Silverman, a well-known
and admired philanthropist in the Capital Region. He believed that
this was a good project and wanted to help the CCC. In a letter to
the CCC he wrote, "Because of previous commitments, I cannot offer
you a $150,000 grant at this time but, if you can get your people
together and they start making grants and pledges, I promise and
guarantee you that within two years, when your new building is
completed, I will get you $150,000."
Because of Mr. Silverman's conditional pledge, the CCC is under
a great pressure and urgent need to raise $200,000 within the
next two years. Currently there is a new campaign "NAME A CLASSROOM
FOR $10,000." I know most of us are just starting off in the real
world, but with 20, 30 or 50 of us who have gone through the Chinese
school for the past 20+ years, we could collect $10,000 and have
a classroom named under our choice. I am determined, with your
help and contributions (any amount would be great $50, $100, $200,
$500+), that we can reach our goal very quickly. I would like to
get this started as soon as I can, so if you have any ideas please
let me know. If you would like to make a pledge please make
check payable to CCC Building Fund and mail it to the following
address:

I've also attached a list of people who attended our get-together
in December and other alums who's email addresses I don't know.
Please forward this message along or let me know their email.
Thanks so much!
M Wang
